Coastal Footpaths
The Isle of Wight Coastal Path circumnavigates the Island and stays beside the sea most of the way around. The total length is approximately 60 miles (100 km) but for convenience the trail is normally split into much smaller sections. The northern side trails border the Solent with it's multitude of craft, the southern side trails are along sandy beaches and magnificent cliff edges [more than half of the Island is recognised as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty]. There really is so much to be seen on the various sections of the
path, with striking chalk geology featuring heavily in the south and
west. There are great views out to sea and many interesting places
to visit, reflecting the island's heritage and royal patronage over
the years. It should be noted that many of the cliff edges can be unstable,
so you not venture too near to them. |

Fort Victoria Country Park Discover the Solent coastline, follow the many woodland paths that lead to panoramic view-points, areas of dramatic landslip and unspoilt sandy beaches. A Countryside Ranger will guided you around the 20 hectare park, pointing out aspects of its varied wildlife. Seashore-study trips are also very popular. |
